Guests Evacuated From Wedding Reception

by Staff Writer

Guests were abandoned from a marriage reception when the fire alarm went off. Bride and bridegroom Sarah Booker and Paul Lewis had just turned up at the King Alfred Leisure Centre, in Kingsway, Hove, when they and their 2 hundred guests were told to leave the dancehall. It is thought the fire alarm went off as caterers prepared food for the marriage in the kitchen. The leisure center's gymnasium also needed to be abandoned. East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service was called to scene at 2.15pm on Sat. and authorized Ms Booker, from Brighton, to sit in the taxi while they dealt with the event. She revealed : "We pulled up and everyone was outside holding glasses if mulled wine.  “The firefighters were amused by the whole thing and they invited me to sit in the cab while everybody took pictures.”
